Nemi and I were talking about last weekend’s Halloween Glam show…  all the elaborate costumes and beautiful hair. Nemi mentioned she started modeling before there was prim hair. That got my attention! The first fashion agency she recalls was Dove. Later changed to Dove Vogue. It was run by Paloma Casanova.

 Miss India, nemi McCoy

Nemi: I have a fashion book from back then, would you like to see it?
Kate: Yes!
Nemi: From the very beginning models used a walk replacer and manual poses.
Kate: Some things never change. I still use “sexy walk”!
Nemi: Torrid Midnight made a great one hip model walk. No modeling schools back then. We just sort of verbally passed on the skills to the new models.

Work it, girls!

Work it, girls!

Kate: Look at this picture of Kimmera Madison from 2004! Isn’t she a MVW 2010 judge? Should we post it?
Nemi: Better check with her first, Kate.
Kimmera: ACK!
Kate: Sounded like a yes to me…

kimmera

Kimmera: LMAO! Wasn’t I a hottie! And yes, that gown was a best seller! I started in May 2003 and they were just developing the clothing templates
Nemi: The featured designer always got to sit at the table of honor with a lamp, a bottle of wine and glasses.
Kimmera: Paloma’s fashion shows were the best known lag fests ever.
Kate: I thought lag was a modern invention.
Kimmera: ohhh nooooo
Nemi: Nah. Everyone lived on the mainland and Pal had all these signs and animations going in her region.
Kimmera: She only owned a portion of that region, yet she’d crash it for anyone else on it.
Kate: Take a look at this guy!

its_a_shirt

Nemi: Isn’t that funny? Only system skins. I think that is a shirt he is wearing.
Kate: Love the Bugs Bunny shorts! Here’s another lovely model picture.

tippy_toes_prim_hair

Nemi: Nytemyst Grace made these model poses.
Kate: Look at the feet. We used to call those tippy-toe poses.
Nemi: This model is wearing prim hair! I think the first prim hair was made by either Washu or Lash. Prim hair was a big deal when it arrived.
Kate: Nemi, you have experinced a lot in Second Life.
Nemi: I am very persistent. Second Life is all about dreams and I feel like I have never given up on mine.
Kate: What advice would you give a new model, perhaps a next year’s potential MVW finalist?
Nemi: Never let anyone sway you from your dream. Here I am five year’s old and this year I am a MVW finalist!

The next Miss Virtual World event will be the first Press Presentation on November 7th. The Grand Finals for the Miss Virtual World will be held at the Patch Thibaud Auditorium on December 19, Saturday. See you there!

The MVW Halloween Glam Show today was the very first public appearance of all the Miss Virtual World 2010 finalists. The 22 finalists were requested to style themselves in Halloween Glam. The challenge was to keep their shapes, hair color and skins while creating a style to fit the Halloween theme and still being gorgeous.Sabine Blackburn

Miss Switzerland, Sabine Blackburn

Kate: I think the audience really appreciated the chance you took today to really make an impression… the huge, animated skirt and hair… fabulous!!!
Sabine: Thank you, first I was not sure if it was a good idea with the huge hair…my arc was over 6k…and some people still believe arc creates lag…but of course it can be a problem for the audience to rezz I think, but yeah I thought now or never.
Kate: You assembled the costume yourself? Can you share your inspiration?
Sabine: Yes. I wanted to come as mermaid but I couldnt come in a classic mermaid outfit because I would have had to swim, not walk and that was a bit risky with all the lag. so I went to flickr to find some inspiration on some pics, there are great fashion blog pics on flickr. I saw this dress there and thought this is it! And then I searched under mermaid hair in SL and found the hair I wear.
Kate: Your hair flowed like you were under water!
Sabine: I wanted to wear a smaller hair but the smaller they didnt have in blond and we were supposed to wear our usual hair colour. It was not simple to walk with this.
Kate: Tell me about the jewelry! It matched in both color and style!
Sabine: I went to Tekeli-li for the jewellery – I knew they had like mermaid accessories.
Kate: I haven’t seen many earrings with both helix and lobe piercings!
Sabine: They are single attach and they fit like a charm, to my ears at least hehe.
Kate: How long would you say you worked on putting together this costume?
Sabine: About one week, lol. I tried other outfits first…but was not satisfied. I want that wow effect for myself, then I know it’s gonna be good.
Kate: You really put your heart and soul into MVW!
Sabine: I love styling and I always put a lot in my styling for shows or contests, especially Miss Virtual World. I like to be creative :)

And what a show it was! Frolic Mills, BOSL & CO CEO, “I think they all made it very clear today why these are the 22 finalists for MISS VIRTUAL WORLD. I saw fab models. I saw fab outfits and I saw some great modeling !! In fact, I don’t think I remember a higher quality fashion show that this one EVER!!” And trust me, Frolic is hard to impress! The next Miss Virtual World event will be the first Press Presentation on December 7th. The Grand Finals for the Miss Virtual World will be held at the Patch Thibaud Auditorium on December 19, Saturday.
